Christmas shopping can be a mix of excitement and mild panic, but Salcombe’s late-night shopping evenings turn it into a treat. Picture beautifully decorated shop windows, Christmas lights twinkling, never a cosy pub too far away, and the chance to find thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gifts in the town’s lovely boutiques. Add a hot chocolate—or a cheeky mulled wine—and it’s the perfect way to spend an evening.

This year, we’re looking forward to getting creative at the wreath-making workshop at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel. Set in a stunning location, it’s a chance to craft something special to adorn our homes while enjoying a relaxed, festive atmosphere. And let’s be honest, heading home with a handmade wreath feels far more satisfying than buying one off the shelf.

Christmas Lights Switch-On

3rd December

There’s nothing quite like a Christmas lights switch-on to make us feel festive. Salcombe’s event is always a highlight, with the town coming together to watch the streets twinkle to life. This year, the magic is enhanced with delicious mince pies and mulled wine from The Bake House and carols performed by the local primary school and church choir. It’s the perfect way to kickstart the season.

Kingsbridge knows how to throw a festive bash! Their annual Christmas celebration is a brilliant event for families and friends alike, with market stalls, food vans, and plenty of mulled wine to keep us warm. It’s a great opportunity to pick up some lovely handmade gifts from local makers while soaking up the cheerful atmosphere.

The Glory of Christmas with the Lyric Chamber Orchestra

For a quieter, more serene festive experience, this concert is a must. Performed by the Lyric Chamber Orchestra, “The Glory of Christmas” is a beautiful evening of classical music and seasonal favourites. And let’s not forget the adorable animals. It’s impossible not to smile when there are piglets involved!

Totnes Christmas Market

Tuesdays 3, 10 and 17 December 3-9pm

Totnes always does Christmas markets brilliantly. The streets buzz with live music, handmade treasures, and the most incredible festive food smells wafting from every corner. It’s one of those places where we plan to “just pop in for a quick look” and end up spending hours enjoying the atmosphere and coming away with bags full of goodies.
